LG Optimus Vu gets international launch, adds Tegra 3 quad-core

When LG released their unique Optimus Vu 5-inch smartphone tablet hybrid earlier this year many wondered when we’d see it stateside. Today LG has confirmed the international launch of the device, and we are still expecting it to arrive in the US on Verizon Wireless with 4G LTE later this year. More details after the break.

The difference here is the US model will rock Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor and 4G LTE, while the international Vu headed to the rest of the world will be powered by NVIDIA’s always impressive quad-core Tegra 3 chip.

For those that don’t know, the LG Optimus Vu rocks an odd 4:3 aspect ratio 5-inch display with a 1024 x 768 resolution, 1GB of RAM, 32GB internal storage, an 8 megapixel rear camera with 1.3 front and runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. We’ve seen it more than a few times and you can see our hands-on video in the timeline below from CTIA, and Mobile World Congress earlier this year.

Previous leaks confirm the Optimus Vu will hit Verizon Wireless in the US with 4G LTE in mid September, and now today LG’s confirmed the international launch will also roll out starting in September — so things are looking good for the Vu. Are you interested in an oddly shaped and sized 5-inch smartphone such as the Vu? Or would you rather get the Galaxy Note 2 that will be announced in a few weeks?
