LG Intuition officially announced by Verizon – hits stores September 6 for $200

LG Intuition officially announced by Verizon – hits stores September 6 for $200

Verizon has finally and officially announced the often rumored LG Optimus Vu with 4G LTE. As you should already know this massive phablet is called the LG Intuition from Verizon and as of today it will be available starting September 6th. We saw these details last week but today Verizon has confirmed all the important bits.

The Verizon Intuition by LG will be available online starting September 6th for $200 after the usual 2-year contract signage, and then will be available nationwide in Verizon Wireless stores starting on the 10th. You won’t be able to walk in and get one quite yet, but the wait shouldn’t be long.
This device is a bit dated before it even hits the streets. Verizon doesn’t offer the Galaxy Note so this is their only plus size BBS (big beautiful smartphone) at the moment — unless they get the Galaxy Note II. Many are hoping that device comes but if not the Intuition will have to take care of your phablet needs for the time being.
This oddly sized and shaped 5-inch 4:3 aspect ratio phone still is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and an 8 megapixel camera so should make plenty of customers happy. It just isn’t quite up to spec compared to the Note II or popular Galaxy S III. Rumors also suggests HTC has a 5-inch 1080p smartphone headed to Verizon but for now the LG Intuition is your best bet. If you are on the fence check out a few of our hands-on below, then head to a store near you on the 10th and check it out yourself.

Samsung Galaxy Note II accessory line up detailed by iLuv

Samsung Galaxy Note II accessory line up detailed by iLuv

by vinay gautam

The Galaxy Note II is one of Samsung‘s new flagship devices, and as such, it’s getting accessories up the wazoo. Samsung has already detailed its line up of first party accessories for the device, but third party manufacturers are going to want to get in the action as well. Today iLuv detailed its full roster of Samsung Galaxy Note II accessories, and we have to say that some of them look pretty sleek.

iLuv has a collection of protective cases and S-Pen replacements to offer you, starting with the Pocket Agent. The Pocket Agent is a leather case that can unfold into a stand for the Galaxy Note II, allowing for two different viewing angles should you require a bit of variety. The Pocket Agent is good for keeping your Galaxy Note II protected from scratches and falls when not in use, but if you want a case that protects your device but still allows you to use it, the Gelato Shield might be for you.

As you can see from the image above, the Gelato Shield comes with a clear cover that’s guaranteed not to interfere with use. It protects your device in much the same way as the Pocket Agent – there’s plenty of padding to keep the corners, sides, and back from damage, but the advantage here is that the clear front cover lets you use the Galaxy Note II while keeping the screen safe from scratches at the same time. iLuv is also offering a Glare Free Protection Kit, which is a layer of film you can put over the front screen to provide a degree of protection from scratches.

Finally, we come to iLuv’s ePen and ePen Pro, which propose something of a trade off – you won’t get the same functionality as you would with the S Pen, but they look pretty stylish, and come with the added benefit of being able to stick them in a pocket easily. Some of these accessories are already available on iLuv’s website (such as the ePen and ePen Pro), while the others will likely be launching around the same time as the Galaxy Note II. They’re not too terribly expensive either, as prices range from $12.99 to $44.99. Will you be hitting up iLuv to buy some accessories for your Galaxy Note II?

Samsung Galaxy S III Jelly Bean OTA update leaks again [Download]

Samsung Galaxy S III Jelly Bean OTA update leaks again [Download]

by vinay gautam

We have some excellent news for all those Galaxy S III fans with the international variation. While Samsung has detailed the update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean multiple times today we have the absolute latest version direct from Sammy. We got a look at the Jelly Bean update at IFA this week but today it has leaked again and is as fresh as it gets.

Yup, this is Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for the Samsung Galaxy S III. It was leaked this morning and even includes a build date of September 3rd. This means this is the absolute latest and newest version right from Samsung and could very well be the final OTA update. A few developer devices got the OTA update so this is as good as it gets — for now.
As usual we can thank those sneaky guys over at XDA-Developers for the build. It has leaked and is ready for users to enjoy right this minute. Sadly this is only for the international Galaxy S III and won’t work with US models for now. It is listed as build I9300XXDLI1 and we’re hearing it’s as official as it gets.
The official update from Samsung is probably just days away or two weeks at the most so whether or not this is worth it or not is up to you. If you love that Jelly Bean and haven’t tried any of the older leaks we’ve seen the last few weeks then hit the XDA link above to get started. As usual proceed at your own risk and of course feel free to drop us a comment once you give it a try as we’d love to hear how it goes. Wait it out or get the latest leak today and enjoy that Jelly Bean!

Nexus 7 3G headed to Play Store this October

Nexus 7 3G headed to Play Store this October

by vinat gautam

ASUS and Google’s Nexus 7 tablet has caused quite a stir in the tablet market and now Google may be readying a 3G/4G version of the popular slate. A few quiet rumors have been floating around regarding at least a 3G HSPA+ version that they could easily sell on their Play Store according to MoDaCo.

Since Google debuted the 8 and 16GB WiFi model many have been wishing for two things. One being 3G or 4G connectivity, and the second being a micro-SD card. Obviously we won’t be seeing the second one, but a 4G LTE Nexus 7 would be awesome if you ask us. What do you guys think?
The newly detailed model could be launching in as soon as six weeks — so that puts a connected Nexus 7 tablet hitting the streets around October and just in time for holiday sales. According to the various tips and whispers the hardware will be exactly the same (which is awesome) except the addition of the new radios.
According to the source, ASUS has already ramped up their production of both WiFi and the new 3G/4G LTE model to prepare for the onslaught of additional sales. We still don’t know how many of the original WiFi model have been sold, but a 3G model would only increase sales. The impressive and powerful tablet debuted at $199, but we have no details on a possible pricing structure for the 3G variation. Whether Google will work with carriers, or just offer a 3G HSPA+ model in their Play Store isn’t yet known. They’ve been pushing hardware sales to their web market so that is where we expect the new tablet to go on sale. We’ll update when we hear more.

Samsung Galaxy Note II gets a wide range of accessories at IFA

Samsung Galaxy Note II gets a wide range of accessories at IFA

by vinay gautam

Samsung got a lot of attention when it pulled the veil off the Galaxy Note II at IFA 2012, but now it’s time to talk accessories. Just like the Galaxy S III, the Galaxy Note II is getting a whole line of accessories to make your device standout from the crowd, keep it protected, and make it easier to use. Our pals at SlashGearwere able to snap a few pictures of the Galaxy Note II accessories display at IFA, and it’s pretty safe to say that there will be no lack of options.

That’s especially true for flip covers. The flip covers made for the Galaxy Note II’s larger screen come in a variety of different colors, ranging from vibrant blues, pinks, and yellows, to darker tones like black, mustard yellow, and red. Naturally, there’s a white one available too if you want to stick with the color scheme of the Galaxy Note II. These flip covers replace the battery cover on the backside of the phone, and come attached to another cover you can flip over the side to protect the front screen.
Also seen in the images are a collection of pouches you can store the Galaxy Note II in where you aren’t using it, along with a number of protective cases. These cases protect the sides of the device with a bumper, meaning that accidentally dropping your Galaxy Note II doesn’t necessarily have to mean the end of the road for your expensive handset. A collection of vehicle docks can be seen in the images, as can a group of S Pens of varying size – perfect for those who need a replacement or find the S Pen the Galaxy Note II comes packed with to be too uncomfortable to use.

We also catch a glimpse of some protective covers and book covers for the Galaxy Note II, and finally, a number of keyboard docks are on display as well. There isn’t any release date or pricing information for this line up of accessories yet, but we can probably expect them to launch around the same time as the device itself. We’ll have that information for you once Samsung spills the details, so keep it tuned here to Android Community!

Samsung Galaxy S III quad-core 4G LTE hands-on

Samsung Galaxy S III quad-core 4G LTE hands-on

by vinay gautam

While roaming the halls at IFA this weekend we managed to stumble on a special Samsung Galaxy S IIIsmartphone. What you’ll see below is an exclusive plum colored quad-core Galaxy S III with 4G LTE from the folks at Vodafone. What’s even better is this device also is running the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean from Samsung.

Samsung has stated Jelly Bean was coming soon, but this device is already running the anticipated update. What we have essentially is the same international Galaxy S III with Samsung’s own Exynos quad-core processor at 1.4 GHz, but it also has 4G LTE — one of the only LTE quad-core devices on the street.

This model rocks the quad-core unlike the US models that all replaced the Samsung Exynos processor for Qualcomm’s 1.5 GHz dual-core S4 instead. As you can see from the image above the 4G LTE present here in Germany thanks to Vodafone was mind boggling fast. 84 Mbps download speeds trump my house network. Then just for fun we also ran the popular Quadrant benchmark to see how Android 4.1 Jelly Bean handled things.

While not outrageously fast it was blazing along as usual. Jelly Bean might not improve benchmark scores too much but thanks to project butter the device was as smooth as could be and Samsung’s TouchWiz UX didn’t have many changes over their ICS flavor. Stay tuned as the official Jelly Bean update should be coming hopefully next week, and Samsung’s new color options should also be hitting the shelves starting this month too.

HTC confirms no ICS for HTC ThunderBolt this month

HTC confirms no ICS for HTC ThunderBolt this month

We have some bad but somewhat expected news for all you Bolt owners this afternoon. After HTC announced multiple times that they would indeed be updating multiple devices to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich during the month of August, Thunderbolt included, sadly that didn’t quite happen. The update won’t be arriving yet and HTC’s issued a statement.

The folks at Droid-Life noticed a comment over on HTC’s Facebook page confirming the details. Basically HTC has stated that “We’re aware we missed the deadline” and “we’re working with Verizon for ICS on the Thunderbolt.” Basically they didn’t share any new details other than yes, it’s not yet available.
HTC updated many of their older devices this past month (and last) to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the HTC ThunderBolt is actually one of the last ones standing that haven’t received the latest and greatest from HTC and Google. Don’t worry though folks, it has leaked multiple times.

After taking a second look at their response pictured above it appears they might be making a poke at Verizon with that one. We all know Big Red is one of the slower carriers when it comes to Android updates (just look at the Galaxy Nexus) so maybe everything is ready to rock from HTC and we are just awaiting Verizon’s approval. Hopefully the official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich arrives for the ThunderBolt. For now CM10 will do just fine.

LG Eclipse 4G LTE (Optimus G) passes through FCC headed to AT&T

LG Eclipse 4G LTE (Optimus G) passes through FCC headed to AT&T

by  vinay gautam

LG’s brand new smartphone that many are calling a superphone has just cleared the FCC en route to AT&T. LG recently announced their brand new next-gen Optimus G quad-core smartphone and now a very similar device is headed to AT&T as the LG Eclipse 4G LTE. It looks like those who passed on the Galaxy S III could have a great device in their hands soon.

Back in May the Eclipse 4G LTE was first spotted as a possible device headed to AT&T, and since then we’ve seen countless leaks and tips suggestion the device is indeed coming soon. Benchmarks confirmed the quad-core processor and 4G LTE aspects for AT&T and this latest FCC filing basically seals the deal.

With both LG and Qualcomm announcing the phone, stating it was headed to the international market in September, then the US in October everything is lining up. AT&T looks to be getting the Eclipse 4G LTE just in time for Halloween. What does this phone entail? a 4.7-inch TrueHD IPS display with a 1280 x 768 resolution display that LG claims is class leading, Qualcomm’s brand new Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor blazing along at incredible speeds, 2GB of RAM, and a massive 13 megapixel camera. Add all that onto AT&T’s growing 4G LTE network and you have a superphone indeed.
The FCC filing spotted by Engadget, shows the usual 4G LTE bands for AT&T, as well as two next-gen radios (bands 2 and 5) for upcoming spectrum upgrades and transfers as we’ve recently seen. If everything lines up the way it appears AT&T will have a top contender from the folks at LG to announce here sometime shortly. Stay tuned for more details.

Huawei MediaPad 10 FHD with 1920 x 1200 display, quad-core coming in September

Huawei MediaPad 10 FHD with 1920 x 1200 display, quad-core coming in September

by vinay gautam

Earlier today we mentioned Huawei was busy making announcements about upcoming smartphones and tablets, and right now we have the best one of them all. It’s called the MediaPad 10 FHD and we’ve talked about it before. It was originally announced back in February and currently available in China. This full 1080p HD tablet rocks a quad-core and Ice Cream Sandwich. Oh and has a keyboard dock like the Transformer series too.

What we have here is Huawei’s version of the ASUS Transformer Pad 700 Infinity. This tablet comes complete with a 10.1-inch 1920 x 1200 full 1080p HD IPS display, a 1.4 GHz HiSilicon quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and even has an optional keyboard dock too. All of this running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Sounds impressive right? We got our first glance at this slate back at MWC so take a look at ourMediaPad 10 FHD hands-on.

The MediaPad 10 FHD features an 8 megapixel autofocus rear camera that records 1080P HD videos and a 1.3 MP front-facing camera. Then you’ll get 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound and they promise around 10 hours of battery life. The entire tablet is wrapped in a brushed aluminum design, and the optional keyboard dock makes it a full out Ultrabook. It offers more battery life, USB, HDMI, and even VGA out.
The MediaPad 10 FHD W-Fi tablet is available now in China, and Huawei will be launching both the WiFi and a 3G/4G LTE version in September although pricing and final details have yet to be announced.

Huawei Ascend G600 announced: 4.5 IPS display and Ice Cream Sandwich by by vinay

Huawei Ascend G600 announced: 4.5 IPS display and Ice Cream Sandwich

by by vinay

to go along with a few product releases in Berlin, Germany, for IFA 2012. One being their brand new smartphone to grace their popular and growing Ascend line. Meet the Ascend G600 with its large 4.5-inch IPS display and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Huawei calls the 4.5-inch screen a “mega screen” but sadly the resolution is 960 x 540 qHD, as we were hoping for an HD display. Running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with a little UI overlay from Huawei the G600 features a 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm S3 processor, 768MB of RAM, and 4GB internal storage. It isn’t quite as powerful as some, but sounds rather impressive and should be aggressively priced.
You’ll get an 8 megapixel camera on the rear with a BSI sensor for auto focus, and dual speakers for DTS surround sound is on board too. The G600 has Huawei’s new battery technology inside its 1930mAh battery. Which is said to take only 4 hours to fully charge (seems long) and the phone offers quick boot mode to completely start in just 5 seconds.
“We are very excited to introduce the new HUAWEI Ascend G600, which gives more functionality and power for people who expect more from their technology,” said Shao Yang, Chief Marketing Officer, Huawei Device. “Building on the success of the Ascend range of smartphones, the HUAWEI Ascend G600 is the latest in our range of flagship products that make exceptional product experiences accessible for more people globally.”

Personalized “Recommended For You” app section hits the Google Play Store

Personalized “Recommended For You” app section hits the Google Play Store

by vinay gautam

Hey, that’s new! Yesterday Google rolled out another neat new feature for their ever growing, expanding, and maturing Play Store for Android. They’ve been busy with it as of late but today we now have a “Recommended For You” app section that should help with app discovery. It’s a welcomed change so lets take a look.

Now how this exactly works and its algorithm isn’t completely known but Google’s been giving personalized results in the Web Store for a while already. Add in their knowledge of search and you get some seriously impressive results. The Recommended for me list was so accurate it was almost scary.
To see this yourself just go to the Google Play Store and hit the Apps tag, then slide over to featured and you’ll see it. Once expanded the Recommended For You will have a huge list of apps based on your previous downloads or searches, it shows things similar users have downloaded, apps friends from Google+ have +1′d, and even apps local to you. It’s so accurate I was pretty amazed.
This is app discovery at its finest. This has been a growing issue with the hundreds of thousands of Apps in the Play Store and this appears to be an excellent first move by Google. So far I haven’t found anything that blew my mind, but looking through the list was quite entertaining. If the app is of no interest, just clear it by hitting the little “no” symbol. Sadly it shows lots of apps I’ve uninstalled previously, as well as currently installed apps. If those would be hidden with a smarter system and Google let me filter recommendations by paid/free then I’d be completely happy. Check it out yourself guys!

The Definitive Guide to SEO Keyword Research

The Definitive Guide to SEO Keyword Research

Keyword research may be the most undervalued facet of SEO. While most webmasters will happily dedicate hours to reading backlink strategies and on-page optimization tips, very few spend the time needed to learn proper keyword research methodology.
Thats a shame as your keywords largely determine:
  • Your Customers: If you rely on SEO for the bulk of your sites traffic, its an absolute must that you choose keywords that potential customers actually use.
  • Your Competition: Two very similar keywords in the same vertical can have a very different level of competition. Savvy SEO veterans know that finding low-competition, high-volume keywords with buyer intent is a shortcut to top search engine real estate.
  • Your Monetization: All traffic is not created equal. Finding keywords that people use while in a buyers mindset makes monetization a breeze.
  • Your SEO Budget: Gunning for a top spot for a set of tough-as-nails keywords is a great way to burn through an SEO budget. If you have a finite amount of money to spend on SEO, youre better off picking your battles and gunning for a set of long tail keywords.
Now that weve covered the why of keyword research its time to get into the nitty-gritty of the how.
Find Your Niche
Many SEO-minded webmasters, and especially microsite owners, do keyword research backwards. Instead of examining a market, they simply look for a single low-hanging fruit and put 100% of their SEO efforts towards ranking for that keyword.
While that model can certainty work, putting all of your eggs in one basket makes you vulnerable to the whim of Googles next animal-dubbed update.
A more viable model is to stick to tight niches with keywords that have the following characteristics:
Search Volume: Theres no worse feeling for a webmaster than working your tail off for a top Google rank only to find your homepage collecting dust. Although single-word keywords like insurance will likely be far beyond your budget, you do need to find a niche that has a critical mass of search volume.
Buyer-Intent: However, massive amounts of searches simply arent enough. Most how-to and free keywords boast massive search volume but bring in only a trickle of sales.
If you run a website about TVs, how do 3D TVs work may stress Googles servers but probably wont help you make a lofty Amazon commission.
Keywords that demonstrate a strong propensity for someone about to make a purchasing decision tend to convert exceptionally well and should form the foundation of your SEO campaign. In general, keywords that contain buy, reviews, best, service, company tell you that the searcher has their credit card in hand, ready to buy.
Instead of how do 3D TVs work, a keyword like best 3D tvs in 2012 would be a better choice.
Another way to gauge buyer intent is by the length and specificity of the keyword. As one moves through the stages of the buying cycle they learn more about the topic, which is reflected in the keywords they tend to use. Continuing our 3D-TV example, a keyword like 3Dtv Samsung un55c7000 price comparison tells you that this is a sophisticated consumer thats itching for a 3D TV.
Permanence: Although 3D TVs wont be around forever, they arent going to become obsolete next week. Ideally, you want to choose a niche that doesnt suffer from boom and bust cycles.
Product review keywords are a good example of the type of keywords you want to avoid.
On the surface, product review keywords have a lot going for them: a fair share of search volume, low competition and strong buyer intent. However, as soon as the company goes belly up or the product rebrands to another name you find yourself ranking for keywords that no one is searching for.
To profit over the long-term, target keywords in niches that people will be searching for long after you retire from SEO.
Examples of these evergreen niches include:
  • Dating
  • Fashion
  • Health
  • Electronics/Technology
  • Marketing
  • Gambling
  • Business
  • Investing
Evaluate Your Competition
Once youve identified a niche that has dozens of potentially lucrative keywords its time to cherry pick low-competition keywords. Surprisingly, even within a tiny niche there are chasms of competitiveness between keywords. You want to find a few dozen of these easy-to-rank keywords to build your sites content around.
For example, SurveySpencer.com targets a number of relatively easy long-tail keywords. For example, Ive found that online surveys for money is significantly easier to rank for than paid surveys and get paid to take surveys, even though they all have similar search volume and buyer intent.
Although we arent writing for the search engines per se, it is important to base your SEO strategy around keywords that people actually search for. Creating great content isnt enough.
Lets say that youve decided that you want to create a new website or a new category on your website about 3D TVs. Your research shows that that theres ample search volume, several strong buyer keywords and that this is a technology thats going to stick around.
Your next step is to enter a high volume keyword into Googles Keyword Tool. Youll see something like this:
Important: Always choose the [Exact] match type during keyword research. Broad and phrase match are wildly inaccurate.
From a cursory look, one keyword stands out as a potential winner: best 3D tv. It has just about everything we want: lots of searches, buyer intent and a keyword people will be using as long as 3D TVs are around.
Lets take a look at Googles first page to see what the competition looks like:
Heres how to systematically evaluate your top 10 competition.
On-Page: Many pages rank simply because theyre on authority sites, like NYTimes.com or Wikipedia. However, you can often usurp their position by making a laser-targeted piece of content around one specific keyword. Check to see if the exact match keyword appears in the title tag, description tag and within the article. In our example, you may notice that the #5 (CNet.com) and #7 result (Channel5.com) dont have the exact keyword best 3D tv in their title or description tags, which is a good sign.
PageRank: Although not a perfect indicator of competition, it holds true that keywords with higher competition tend to have pages with high PR on the first page. If you see one or two low PR pages on the first page, you may be able to nudge them off with a few high-power backlinks.
Internal Pages vs. Homepages: Another imperfect but helpful indicator of your competition is the number of homepages you have to compete with. In general, homepages tend to be a bit tougher to rank against simply because theyre usually older, boast more backlinks and have more social signals than internal pages.
Authority Sites: Within every niche there are a handful of authority sites. For example, in the SEO niche, SearchEnginePeople.com and SEOMoz.org are forces to be reckoned with. If you see the first page littered with aged, authority sites, it may be time to consider another keyword.
Keyword research tools, such as the popular Market Samurai and Micro Niche Finder, can help streamline this process. However, they use the same metrics Ive described above to measure keyword competition.
Keywords Are Your Business
