Facebook Creates New System to Report Phishing Activities

Facebook Creates New System to Report Phishing Activities

Facebook has launched a new email address, phish@fb.com. This email is dedicated for its users to report any activities that are linked to phisihing. This includes any receiving phishing emails that seek to trick members into revealing their personal account information.
This is another step for the social network giant is taking to stop phishing lurking in their system. The email address accepts reports of any such phishing attempts, saying they will “investigate and request for browser blacklisting and site takedowns where appropriate.”

“We will then work with our eCrime team to ensure we hold bad actors accountable. Additionally, in some cases, we’ll be able to identify victims, and secure their accounts,” the company wrote in a posting on its security blog.
“This new reporting channel will compliment internal systems we have in place to detect phishing sites attempting to steal Facebook user login information.”
“The internal systems notify our team, so we can gather information on the attack, take the phishing sites offline, and notify users.  Affected users will be prompted to change their password and provided education to better protect themselves in the future.”

T-Mobile Concord announced as most affordable smartphone – just $99

T-Mobile Concord announced as most affordable smartphone – just $99

The folks at T-Mobile just dropped the news regarding their newest Android smartphone to grace customers nationwide. It’s called the T-Mobile Concord and is being touted as their “most affordable smartphone.” This new device is a contract free and budget friendly. They’re calling it the perfect phone for first time smartphone buyers. More details below.

This ultimate back-to-school priced device is a rather mid-range phone at best, but offers an exceptional value and comes with no annual contract. That’s right. This is a contract free Android smartphone all for just $99 from T-Mobile. The phone is actually made by ZTE, but looks quite nice for the price.
With the T-Mobile Concord you’ll get a decent little 3.5-inch display, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 2 megapixel camera (for those Facebook shots) and a 2GB SD card included. The important thing here is you’ll get all of that with no annual contract for only $99.
T-Mobile is also touting this as the perfect device for a first time smartphone buyer. With an easy to use interface and simplistic design and more. The brand new ZTE T-Mobile Concord is available right now starting today at Walmart for $99.98, and you can expect to see it arrive in Target stores nationwide on August 26th for $99.99 as well.

Qualcomm confirms Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core in upcoming LG phones

Qualcomm confirms Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core in upcoming LG phones

Over the past few weeks we’ve seen a few leaks regarding an upcoming smartphone from the folks at LG that is rather powerful. Blasting through benchmarks and sounding quite impressive. Then even more details leaked regarding the LG Optimus G smartphone. We now can confirm that Qualcomm‘s extremely fast and efficient new quad-core will be powering the device.

The current processor powering all the most popular smartphones is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, that manages to hold its own rather well against current quad-cores. We got our first look at the new S4 Pro quad-core last month but we now know it is coming, and coming soon.
Qualcomm has confirmed they’ve partnered with LG and have been collaborating on releasing a powerful quad-core 4G LTE device they are calling a “global device.” This will support full 3G and 4G LTE with what they call 3G/LTE multi-mode. So the tradeoff between 3G and 4G LTE will be seamless — something we haven’t seen in the past.
Qualcomm will supply the latest Snapdragon™ S4 Pro platform to LG, enabling LG’s new quad-core smartphone, which is currently in production with anticipated commercial availability in Korea in September and global rollout to follow. This smartphone will be the newest commercial and global device to offer a quad core CPU Snapdragon S4 processor along with 3G/LTE multi-mode capabilities, delivering a superior mobile experience for voice, web browsing, games, user interfaces and other graphics applications.
Qualcomm calmly mentions an anticipated release date for September with a global rollout to follow. We’ve heard rumors of an LG Eclipse 4G LTE quad-core phone headed to AT&T in October, so this seems to confirm previous leaks. Either way we can expect some impressively powerful quad-core smartphones to blow the competition away in the next few months thanks to Qualcomm. Have a look below at some recent quad-core news and stay up to date.

ZTE Blade III Smartphone Spotted On Retailers Website

ZTE Blade III Smartphone Spotted On Retailers Website

The latest ZTE Blade III has been spotted ahead of any official announcements from its creator ZTE. The new ZTE Blade III was spotted by an eagle eyed visitor to a Finnish retailers website, where the ZTE Blade III seemingly has been mistakenly listed a little earlier than ZTE surely would have liked.
The link of the ZTE Blade III was then quickly posted to Twitter, and if you are interested the page is still live over on the Verkkokauppa.com website, revealing the smartphones specifications.

Motorola has no plans to add bootloader unlocking support to older devices

Motorola has no plans to add bootloader unlocking support to older devices

Awhile back, after promising their customers for so long, Motorola had finally rolled out an online bootloader unlocking tool on its website. People were happy. Some did a little dance. But at launch, only a handful of handsets were supported, like the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE, the developer version of the RAZR and the Xoom tablets for instance.

Gigabyte P2542G gaming laptop hands-on

Gigabyte P2542G gaming laptop handson
While we managed to get our hands on Gigabyte's latest graphics card-toting Ultrabook back at CeBIT, we've just finished handling the P2542G (its high-end gaming sibling) at the laptop and motherboard maker's UK launch event. Packing a 15.6-inch 1,920 x 1,080 display, it runs on an Ivy Bridge Core i7-3610QM, with a 2GB NVIDIA GTX 660M card to power PC gaming's latest and greatest. Add in a Blu-ray player and THX-certified dual-woofer sound system and you have the makings of pretty capable beast -- not to mention looking the part with a yellow paint job and dual exhaust vents along the back edge. Check out our impressions after the break and expect a hands-on video very soon.

Apple seeks patent for hearing aids that deliver speech at an even keel

Apple seeks patent for hearing aids that deliver speech at an even keel

Apple seeks patent for hearing aids that deliver speech at an even keel
Although they're called hearing aids, they can sometimes be as much of a hindrance as a help. Catch an unfamiliar accent and the attention might be on just parsing the words, let alone moving the conversation forward. Apple is applying for a patent on a technique that would take the guesswork out of listening by smoothing out all the quirks. The proposed idea would convert speech to text and back, using the switch to remove any unusual pronunciation or too-quick talking before it reaches the listener's ear. Not surprisingly for a company that makes phones and tablets, the hearing aid wouldn't always have to do the heavy lifting, either: iOS devices could handle some of the on-the-fly conversion, and pre-recorded speech could receive advance treatment to speed up the process. We don't know if Apple plans to use its learning in any kind of shipping product, although it's undoubtedly been interested in the category before -- and its ambitions of having iPhone-optimized hearing aids could well get a lift from technology that promises real understanding, not just a boost in volume.

MasterCard denies BitCoin card rumors, BitInstant says it's still on track

MasterCard denies BitCoin card rumors, BitInstant says it's still on track

MasterCard shoots down BitCoin debit card rumors
Well, BitInstant is insistent that it will launch a BitCoin debit card, but MasterCard is claiming it will not be part of the plans. After a mock up of the plastic made the rounds featuring the company's logo, the financial powerhouse felt it necessary to reach out to us, clarifying its non-involvement.
"MasterCard has no relationship with BitInstant. There are issuers who allow the conversion of Bitcoins to US dollars and other currencies, delivered on prepaid cards. However, we're not aware of this particular programme from BitInstant."
Of course, if you read the transcript of Charlie Shrem's chat announcing the plans, he never actually names MasterCard. The logo was likely meant as a placeholder -- one that some outlets took a little too literally.
Interestingly, this doesn't actually mean that MasterCard won't be involved... just that the company isn't at this point in the process. BitInstant released its own statement, just hours after the card house contacted us, saying that it has been working with MasterCard affiliates, but had yet to submit to the financial firm directly.
"The card program is moving forward and the arrangement with MasterCard will be handled in due time at the proper stage of the process by the partners who work directly with that company."
So, what have we learned today? Not a whole heck of a lot actually, other than the fact that putting out a debit card is a complicated business. You'll just have to stay tuned to see how this shakes out.

IRISNotes 2 looks to undercut Livescribe, digitizes your scribbles for $99

IRISNotes 2 looks to undercut Livescribe, digitizes your scribbles for $99

IRISNotes 2 looks to undercut Livescribe, digitizes your scribbles for $99
IRIS is trying to make a big name for itself in the OCR world. But, top notch software alone isn't going to put its name on the tips of consumers tongues. For that they're gonna need something sexier, more... tangible. With its portable scanner line already on shelves the company is pushing out an update to its digital pen series IRISNotes. The IRISNotes Express 2 and Executive 2 are very similar to the intriguing Livescribe that, while compelling, never seemed to fly off the shelves. IRISNotes ditches the special paper required by its more popular competitor, and instead uses a small receiver that clips to the top of a standard sheet to record your scrawl in digitized form. IRIS hasn't specified how much storage is on board, only saying that it can save 100 pages worth of notes before you'll need to download its contents to a PC. The $99 Express undercuts Livescribe's cheapest offering by $20, but it's worth noting that it doesn't have support for voice notes or a stable of applications that tie into its ecosystem. The Executive model retails for $149 and sports a more elegant finish, befitting its name. It also comes with a 30-pin adapter that lets you dump your missives directly to an iDevice. Both are available now, and you'll find complete PR after the break.

Archos 80 XS and 97 XS tablets coming soon

Archos 80 XS and 97 XS tablets coming soon

Earlier today Archos finally unveiled their new G10 XS line of Android tablets starting with the Archos 101 XS. What makes these new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich tablets different from the rest is the included keyboard and protective cover they’re calling a coverboard. During the noise this morning they also detailed two more coming soon.

In case you missed it you’ll surely want to check out our Archos 101 XS Tablet Review. As that will give you a better idea of what to expect from this Android 4.0 ICS tablet. Sporting a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and a keyboard all at 8mm thin. The tablet is sleek, lightweight, powerful, and cheap.
According to Archos, they’ll be announcing and releasing very similar tablets both in their usual 8-inch size as well as a 9.7-inch XS option. These will be known as the Archos 80 XS and 97 XS. So far we’re hearing they’ll come with the same internal specs and dual-core processor, same awesome coverboard keyboard, and also at an excellent price.
If Archos manages to price the 80 XS with 16GB of storage for $199 then they might have some competition for the Nexus 7, but as it stands — not so much. We can expect near identical devices with the 80 having a 1024 x 768 resolution, while the 9.7 manages to squeeze a 1280 x 800 screen inside. Archos hasn’t announced any details or pricing for these new models, and only the 101 is available starting next month. Stay tuned for more details.

HTC One S update hits with Sense UI 4.1 and bug fixes

HTC One S update hits with Sense UI 4.1 and bug fixes

HTC has already confirmed their impressive new HTC One series of smartphone will receive Android 4.1 Jelly Bean soon, but not quite yet. Today an update has been confirmed for the folks enjoying the HTC One S and it’s bringing the handset to Android 4.0.4 and a new and improved Sense 4.1 UI. Head on past the break for full details.

Reports are flooding in that the international and European HTC One S has received the above mentioned update starting late last night. This is a rather small update bringing you from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 to 4.0.4, but it also brings the new and improved Sense UI changes. They’ve tweaked the menu button mainly, but we already knew that.
The 157MB update is rolling out to smartphones as we speak over the air, and users should already be seeing it — or they will shortly. Just like the recent HTC One X update you can now customize and remap the multitask key to better suite your needs. Many have made that their menu button, with long press acting as multitasking.
As usual HTC is promising some performance enhancements and tweaks, and they’ve claimed to have fixed a few pesky but ongoing bugs, although we don’t have a full changelog. The camera should also be faster and improved, but sadly there’s also mention of some EA Games bloatware added too. Head to settings and check for updates or just wait as it should arrive shortly. Now it’s T-Mobile’s turn.

LG Optimus Vu heads to Verizon as the LG Intuition for $199

LG Optimus Vu heads to Verizon as the LG Intuition for $199

In case you haven’t been following along, LG’s 5-inch phablet named the LG Optimus Vu is headed to Verizon Wireless complete with 4G LTE. We’ve seen countless leaks and rumors so it’s no secret at this point. Today we have even more confirmation that it’s headed to Verizon, complete with a name change. The Optimus Vu will be branded as the Intuition by LG.

Most of LG’s devices on Verizon have been listed this way with “by LG” following the name so this all makes perfect sense. Today the folks at Droid-Life received the details above and can confirm the LG Intuition will be announced shortly by Verizon, and then hit the shelves at $199.

We’ve seen multiple documents stating it would arrive this quarter, directly from LG. Pictures have shown the 5-inch smartphone in whole sporting the Verizon 4G LTE logo, and now we have this. The evidence are piling up and all we need now is Verizon and LG to make an official statement.
With the Galaxy Note 2 being announced in just about a week we are all wondering what LG and Verizon are waiting for, but either way we’ll know the details soon. The Galaxy Note is available on AT&T and T-Mobile and this will be the first “phablet” device for Verizon. Hopefully the Galaxy Note 2 arrives for Verizon too so we can all forget about this Optimus Vu… I mean Intuition. HTC has their own phablet in the works too so this will be an interesting few months for large smartphones headed to Verizon.

Samsung Galaxy Metrix 4G announced by US Cellular

Samsung Galaxy Metrix 4G announced by US Cellular

Today the folks from US Cellular are getting another Samsung smartphone to grace their growing 4G LTE network. Having just announced the new Samsung Galaxy Metrix 4G QWERTY slider smartphone. This is surely a budget aimed device but comes complete with a 4-inch display, full keyboard, and 4G LTE. Check it out below.

The Metrix 4G will be hitting US Cellular stores starting Friday, August 24th, and is currently up onUSCellular.com. This budget-friendly device packs a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 1.0 GHz single-core processor and a 5 megapixel camera all for a decent price. The device resembles Verizon’s Samsung Stratosphere and rocks the same keyboard.
Pricing consists of $179 after a $100 mail in rebate and a new 2-year contract, but for those in a USCC 4G LTE area it will only run you $129 instead — after the same $100 MIR. As you can see above the keyboard is quite spacious, and this should be a great back to school device since we know everyone is on the lookout for deals.
Pricing seems a bit odd punishing those that don’t have 4G LTE (which isn’t their fault) but US Cellular is trying quite hard to get more users on their regional 4G LTE services. The new Metrix 4G might not compete with the Galaxy S III on US Cellular, but then it’s priced much lower too. For those keyboard lovers or users on a budget this is worth a quick look.

Nexus 7 available in Germany starting September 3rd

Nexus 7 available in Germany starting September 3rd

While ASUS and Google’s popular Nexus 7 tablet is now widely available in many parts of the world, those in Germany have still been left out. Things are about to change however as German siteAndroidNext has confirmed the tablet will be available starting September 3rd across Germany.

Apparently some details leaked that a popular German store Saturn would be getting units of the 16GB Nexus 7 starting on September 3rd and those reports have seemingly been confirmed. Multiple retailers across Germany should start receiving the impressive budget tablet and selling them shortly.
The details can’t technically be confirmed as it was only mentioned by a store headquarters rep, but they feel pretty confident in the information. IFA is starting in Berlin, Germany, at the end of the month and running into the first week of September so that also makes sense as the details all line up for a device launch.
According to Saturn the 16GB Nexus 7 is listed at 249 Euro’s but full pricing and availability has yet to be confirmed, nor is it final. The Nexus 7 has been a hot device as of late and selling out here in the Play Store and at multiple retail stores across the US. Be sure and hit up the timeline of links below for more details and our review of the Nexus 7 tablet.
